# Someone knows someone

Source: https://newworldmanual.com/en/06-alguem-conhece-alguem/

Rafael does not sell software.

That distinction seems small.

It is not.

He meets people.

Sometimes for twenty minutes.

Sometimes for a whole ride.

Sometimes for just long enough for someone to mention that his wife works in real estate.

That is how he met Marina.

She got into the car on the phone.

There was a visit scheduled.

A client had changed the time.

Another wanted apartments in a neighborhood where she hardly ever worked.

When she hung up, she apologized.

She said an agent never hangs up.

Rafael laughed.

He knew something that might help.

He did not open a presentation.

He did not show a feature list.

He did not run a demo on his phone while driving.

He only asked:

— Can I send you something later?

Marina said yes.

So Rafael asked for her name and number.

The ride went on.

For a few minutes, nothing happened.

That is what should happen.

Not every opportunity needs to interrupt the moment it appears in.

Later, the system asked Rafael:

"Do you want to introduce ViaCorretor to Marina?"

He said yes.

Another question came.

"Do you want to send it yourself, or should I make the introduction?"

Rafael could simply have asked the system to handle it.

Marina would receive a message.

She would know Rafael had referred her.

She could ask whatever she wanted.

But that day Rafael chose something else.

He wanted to show up.

The system asked if he would like to record a short message.

He said yes.

He opened a link.

On the screen there were a few sentences.

Not a course.

Not a sales lesson.

Only what would be useful in that moment.

"Hi, Marina. This is Rafael, from today's ride."

He read it.

Stopped.

Found it too formal.

Said so.

The text changed.

"Hi, Marina. It's Rafael, the one who drove you today. I remembered our talk and wanted to show you the thing I mentioned."

Better.

He went on.

In under two minutes he had recorded it.

Rafael did not need to know how to write a script.

He did not need to learn video editing.

He did not need to figure out which parts of ViaCorretor to show.

The Intelligence already knew the conversation.

It knew the product.

It knew the most frequent questions.

It knew, little by little, the way Rafael talked.

It took his message.

Added a few images where they made sense.

Cut the long silence.

Kept the voice.

Kept the face.

Kept Rafael.

Marina received a message from a person.

Not from a campaign.

That matters more than it seems.

For many years we used technology to increase the number of people someone could talk to.

We sent the same message to a hundred.

Then to ten thousand.

Then to millions.

We called that scale.

Maybe Intelligence allows another kind of scale.

The ability to treat a hundred people as a hundred people.

Not as a list.

Rafael does not need to write a hundred personalized messages.

Nor does he need to send the same one to everyone.

He lends his intention.

The Intelligence takes care of the mechanical work around it.

That is one of the rules of Genesis.

**Automating effort does not mean automating the relationship.**

We want to remove what surrounds the relationship.

Not the relationship.

Marina watches the video.

She asks a question.

Rafael does not know the answer.

He does not need to pretend he does.

The question reaches him with a possibility:

"Do you want to answer?"

Another option sits right below.

"I can explain for you."

Rafael picks the second.

A few days later Marina joins ViaCorretor.

From there, something changes between the two.

Rafael does not disappear.

That may be one of the worst features of many sales systems.

Before the purchase there is a person.

After the purchase there is a protocol.

The salesperson is close while he needs to convince.

When he succeeds, he hands the customer to another department.

Genesis does not need to work that way.

Marina came in through Rafael.

So there is a relationship.

That relationship can continue.

Not because Rafael became a support employee.

Because he can be a human reference inside the system.

When Marina has a simple question, the Intelligence handles it.

When there is something that deserves Rafael's attention, he shows up.

That difference is fundamental.

He does not monitor Marina.

He does not get dozens of notifications a day.

He does not open a dashboard in the morning looking for problems.

The Intelligence observes what can be observed.

And tries not to bother anyone.

A few weeks later a situation arises.

Marina tried to do something three times.

She could not.

The Intelligence tried to help.

It still sensed frustration.

So it asked Rafael:

"Marina ran into trouble here. Do you want to talk to her?"

Rafael could say no.

Maybe he was taking his daughter to school.

In that case, the system would keep handling it.

But at that moment he said yes.

He received a small summary.

Not a twenty-page report.

Three lines.

What happened.

What had already been tried.

What probably still needed to be understood.

Rafael sends a voice note.

"Hi, Marina. Saw there was a problem with that thing. Is it working now?"

She replies.

Not yet.

Rafael does not know how to fix it.

That is fine too.

He tells the system:

"She still has the problem."

The issue goes to whoever can solve it.

Some time later, Rafael receives another message.

"Solved."

And a question.

"Do you want to tell Marina, or should I?"

He chooses to tell her.

"Marina, looks like they fixed it. Test it for me when you can."

She tests it.

It worked.

The end.

There was no ticket.

There was no protocol.

There was no training on support.

There was no lesson teaching Rafael to operate a service desk.

There was a problem.

The Intelligence presented what was needed for that problem.

Rafael made a decision.

Then went back to his life.

That is another rule.

**Human attention should only be taken when there is a reason to take it.**

For decades we built systems that compete for our attention.

Notifications.

Inboxes.

Dashboards.

Red indicators.

Unread messages.

Queues.

Genesis should be ashamed to do that.

The Intelligence knows enough context to try something else.

If we do not need you, we do not call you.

If we need you, we explain why.

If there is a decision, we present the decision.

If there is only mechanical work, we do the work.

The person should not learn to operate Genesis.

Genesis should learn to live with the person.

A child does not receive a manual on how to talk to her mother.

She lives with her.

Tries.

Gets it wrong.

Is corrected.

Notices patterns.

Language is born from the relationship.

We want something similar between people and Intelligence.

Rafael does not take a course on affiliation.

On the first day he learns how to introduce someone.

When he gets his first question, he learns how to answer.

When a problem appears, he learns how to follow up.

When a customer starts drifting away, he learns how a relationship can be recovered.

The learning arrives together with the need.

Not before.

That changes the whole feeling of taking part.

In the old world, we first taught a person to do a job.

Then we let her work.

We created training.

Manuals.

Certification.

Onboarding.

Corporate university.

Genesis starts from the other side.

You start by living.

When something comes up that you do not yet know how to do, the Intelligence helps.

Each situation teaches only what is needed to get through that situation.

Little by little, experience appears.

The Intelligence learns too.

Maybe Rafael asks an especially good question to an agent who is thinking about cancelling.

The conversation works.

The system notices.

It does not automatically turn Rafael into a rule.

It asks.

"That approach seems to have helped. Do you want to share it?"

Rafael can say no.

It may be a private conversation.

But maybe he says yes.

It becomes part of the common knowledge.

Days later, an unemployed mother in Recife runs into a similar situation.

The Intelligence can help her using something Rafael learned in Jundiaí.

She may improve the approach.

She hands something else back.

Now Rafael can learn from her too.

That is the kind of network that interests us.

Not a network of people below one another.

A network of experience passing through them.

Affiliation creates something curious.

Economic interest and care can point in the same direction.

Rafael receives while Marina remains a customer inside the agreed period.

So it is in Rafael's interest that Marina really uses ViaCorretor.

That she gets results.

That her problems get solved.

That she was not talked into buying something useless.

That does not turn financial interest into kindness.

We have to be careful with fantasies.

But we can design less stupid incentives.

If Rafael earns only when he closes the sale, the system tells him to close.

If he keeps taking part while there is a good relationship, the system gives him a reason to care for the relationship.

After the first twelve months, something even more important happens.

The automatic participation ends.

But the relationship does not have to end.

Genesis asks Marina.

Not Rafael.

Marina.

"Is Rafael still a good reference for you?"

Maybe she says no.

Maybe they hardly ever talked.

Maybe she would rather go on with just the Intelligence.

That is fine.

The economic relationship ends.

But maybe Marina answers:

"Yes. I want to keep him."

Then she can renew that relationship for another period.

Six months.

Twelve months.

The length may change as we learn.

The principle is what matters.

**Nobody owns a customer.**

The relationship has to be chosen again.

Rafael does not earn forever because one day he met Marina on a ride.

He keeps taking part because Marina keeps saying:

"I want this human nearby."

That turns the affiliate into something different.

Maybe we should not even call him an affiliate forever.

At the start he created the connection.

Later he can become a reference.

A kind of caretaker of that relationship.

Someone who knows the story.

Who knows why that person joined.

Who receives context when something important happens.

Who can ask:

"Is it working out?"

And hear the answer as a person.

Genesis keeps doing almost everything else.

Reports can exist.

But they arrive when they make sense.

"Marina used the system less this month."

On its own that may not deserve attention.

People travel.

They get sick.

They change pace.

We do not want to turn behavior into surveillance.

But maybe the system notices another set.

She tried something.

She could not.

Then she stopped using it.

Now there is context.

So Rafael may receive:

"It might be worth asking if something happened."

That sentence is enough.

The Intelligence does not need to tell Rafael what to do.

It can help if he wants.

"Do you want to send a message?"

Yes.

"Voice or text?"

Voice.

"Do you want me to help?"

Yes.

And another small relationship happens.

It is easy to look at all this and see features.

Teleprompter.

Video.

CRM.

Automation.

Support.

Analytics.

Generative AI.

Affiliates.

That would be a mistake.

None of these things is the product we are trying to build.

They are plumbing.

If they work well, they disappear behind the wall.

What we want to produce is something else.

Rafael knows Marina.

Marina trusts Rafael enough to listen.

Rafael can help her without having to turn that into a profession.

When he needs help, he gets it too.

When he learns something, he can hand it to everyone.

When Marina does not need him, he stays silent.

When she decides his presence still has value, the relationship continues.

That is it.

The Intelligence exists so that human relationships can have capabilities that used to require a whole organization around them.

Think of what stood behind a traditional sale.

Marketing.

Pre-sales.

Sales.

Onboarding.

Customer success.

Support.

Training.

Product.

Analytics.

Operations.

Management.

Maybe we still need all those capabilities.

But that does not mean we need to reproduce all those departments.

The capabilities can exist inside the system.

And appear through a person when a person makes a difference.

Rafael can be, at different moments, introduction, onboarding, support and relationship.

Without knowing those names exist.

That part interests me a lot.

Because maybe most professions appeared when we split whole relationships into small functions in order to scale.

The Intelligence can allow the opposite path.

Give the whole relationship back to one person and carry, underneath, all the complexity needed to sustain it.

We do not want to turn Rafael into a better sales machine.

We want to make him able to care for more relationships without ceasing to be Rafael.

And we do not want to turn Marina into a number in his portfolio.

We want her to be able to decide whether that relationship still serves her.

The system stays in the middle.

But it should not stand between the two.

There is a difference.

When a technology stands between people, it controls the relationship.

When it stays in the middle, it can sustain it.

That may be the best way to explain Genesis.

An Intelligence present enough to help.

And discreet enough to let people keep seeing each other.

One day Rafael may not even notice how many capabilities are working around him.

He will just remember he met Marina on a ride.

He sent a video.

She started using something that helped in her work.

Sometimes they talked.

Some problems appeared.

They were solved.

A year went by.

Genesis asked Marina whether it still made sense to keep Rafael close.

She said yes.

And the story went on.

We do not need more technology showing up in life.

We need more things happening without requiring anyone to learn the technology that made them possible.

That is the pattern.

The person expresses an intention.

The Intelligence offers the next step when it becomes necessary.

The person chooses.

The Intelligence learns.

Then disappears again.

Maybe that is how a child meets the Intelligence for the first time.

Not through a button that says "start".

She asks something.

The world answers.

Over time she learns to ask better.

And the world learns to know her.

Rafael is doing exactly the same thing.

We all are.

We still call this an affiliation system because we have to put some name on the files.

But the name describes very little.

What we are building is a way for someone to find another person, help her, learn from that relationship and take part in the value the two created together.

Without a company in the middle saying who each of them has to be.

Without software demanding study.

Without a machine trying to replace the human.

And without a human being forced to do the machine's work.

When this works, nobody will say:

"What an incredible affiliation system."

Probably nobody will think about the system.

Marina will think:

"I'll talk to Rafael."

Rafael will think:

"Let me see if I can help."

And Genesis will have done exactly what it was built for.

Nothing worth remembering.
